When does Ramadan 1448 start?

On the Umm al-Qura calendar, 1 Ramadan 1448 falls on Monday 8 February 2027, so the first Taraweeh prayer is on the evening of Sunday 7 February. Ramadan 1448 has 29 days in the calendar, so the last fast is on Monday 8 March and Eid al-Fitr is on Tuesday 9 March 2027. The last ten nights begin on the evening of Saturday 27 February.

This year Ramadan falls in late winter, so fasts in Riyadh last about 12½ hours at the start and about 13 hours by the end. All the dates and details are in When is Ramadan 2027?, and your city’s Suhoor and Iftar times are in the Ramadan timetable 1448.

How the countdown works

The large countdown shows the time left until the start of Ramadan. Below it, each card shows the days left until the next Eid al-Fitr, Day of Arafah, Eid al-Adha, Islamic New Year, Saudi Founding Day and Saudi National Day, with the date in both calendars.

When an occasion arrives, its card changes to show that it’s today. During Ramadan, the main card shows which day of Ramadan it is.

Ramadan and Eid countdown: common questions

How many days are left until Ramadan?

The countdown at the top of this page shows the exact days, hours, minutes and seconds, and updates every second.

When is Eid al-Fitr in 2027?

According to the Umm al-Qura calendar, 1 Shawwal 1448 falls on Tuesday 9 March 2027. The date is confirmed when the crescent moon is sighted.

Why might the actual date differ by a day?

In Saudi Arabia, the start of Ramadan, Shawwal and Dhu al-Hijjah is announced after the crescent moon is sighted. The announced date can be a day before or after the Umm al-Qura date.

When does the countdown reach zero?

At midnight at the start of the day, in your local time. In the Islamic calendar a new day begins at sunset, so the first Taraweeh prayer of Ramadan is on the evening before.
