How it’s worked out

  • kWh a month = watts × hours a day × 30 ÷ 1,000
  • Cost = kWh × 0.18 SAR (or 0.30 above 6,000 kWh a month) + 15% VAT

Example: an air conditioner

An 18,000 BTU split AC at about 1,800 W, running 10 hours a day:

1,800 × 10 × 30 ÷ 1,000 = 540 kWh, about SAR 112 a month

Saving on cooling

  • Set the AC to 24 °C; each degree cooler uses noticeably more power.
  • Inverter ACs save energy over long summers.
  • Close curtains on sunny windows during the day.

Check the right AC size with the AC size calculator, and your whole bill with the electricity bill calculator.
