Two methods
Grade for grade (Saudi scales). Saudi universities give each letter grade a value on both scales, and the 4-point value is always one point lower. So converting from 5 to 4 means subtracting 1. This is the most accurate method for a Saudi transcript.
Simple proportion. Multiply by 4/5 (or 5/4 the other way). It gives a slightly higher result on the 4-point scale, and some institutions abroad use it.
| GPA out of 5 | Grade for grade (/4) | Proportion (/4) |
|---|---|---|
| 4.75 | 3.75 | 3.80 |
| 4.50 | 3.50 | 3.60 |
| 4.25 | 3.25 | 3.40 |
| 3.75 | 2.75 | 3.00 |
| 3.20 | 2.20 | 2.56 |

Which one to use
Scholarship programmes, universities abroad and employers sometimes say exactly how they want a GPA converted, and some ask for an official equivalency letter from your university. Use their method when they give one. To work out your GPA from your courses first, use the GPA calculator.
