How to use the calculator

  1. Enter your monthly consumption in kWh, or your previous and current meter readings.
  2. Choose your breaker size. Most homes use 20–99 A.
  3. You’ll see the estimated bill, with the energy charge, meter fee and VAT listed separately.

The residential tariff

Monthly consumption Price per kWh
First 6,000 kWh 18 halalas (0.18 SAR)
Above 6,000 kWh 30 halalas (0.30 SAR)
Breaker size Monthly meter fee
20–99 A SAR 10
100–199 A SAR 15
200–299 A SAR 21
300–399 A SAR 22
400 A SAR 25
Above 400 A SAR 30

Examples

Consumption Energy Meter fee VAT (15%) Total
1,500 kWh 270.00 10.00 42.00 322.00
4,000 kWh 720.00 10.00 109.50 839.50
7,000 kWh 1,380.00 10.00 208.50 1,598.50

For 7,000 kWh: 6,000 × 0.18 = 1,080, plus 1,000 × 0.30 = 300, which gives 1,380. Add the 10 SAR meter fee, then 15% VAT.

This is an estimate for homes. Commercial, government and agricultural accounts use different tariffs. For more on reading your bill, see how your electricity bill is calculated.

Guides about this tool

Electricity bill calculator: common questions

How much is electricity per kWh in Saudi Arabia?

For homes, 18 halalas (0.18 SAR) per kWh for the first 6,000 kWh in a month, and 30 halalas (0.30 SAR) for every kWh above that.

What is the meter fee on my bill?

A fixed monthly fee based on your breaker size: SAR 10 for 20–99 A, which covers most homes, up to SAR 30 above 400 A.

Is VAT charged on electricity?

Yes. 15% VAT is added to the whole bill, including the meter fee.

Why is my bill higher in summer?

Air conditioning. Summer use often passes 6,000 kWh a month in larger homes, so part of it is charged at the higher 30-halala rate.
