How it’s calculated

  • Daily wage = monthly wage ÷ 30
  • Hourly wage = daily wage ÷ 8
  • Deduction = daily wage × days absent + hourly wage × late hours

Example

Wage 9,000 SAR, absent for 2 days without permission:

  • Daily wage: 9,000 ÷ 30 = 300
  • Deduction: 300 × 2 = 600 SAR
  • Wage after the deduction: 8,400 SAR

Good to know

  • Days off with an approved reason, such as sick leave with a medical report, follow their own rules; see the sick leave calculator.
  • The total deducted in one month is capped at half the wage (Article 92).

Absence deduction calculator: common questions

How is the daily wage worked out?

The monthly wage divided by 30. On a 9,000 SAR wage, one day is 300 SAR.

Is there a limit on deductions?

Yes. Under Article 92, deductions in a month can’t be more than half the wage, unless a court orders otherwise.

Is absence also a disciplinary matter?

It can be. Any penalty beyond the unpaid days must follow the company’s approved work regulations, and the employee must be told in writing.
