How to use the overtime calculator
- Enter your basic monthly salary.
- Enter your monthly allowances, such as housing and transport. Enter 0 if your employer calculates overtime on the basic salary only.
- Enter the number of overtime hours.
You’ll see your overtime pay, the rate for each overtime hour, and your normal hourly wage. The last line shows what you’d get if overtime were calculated on the basic salary only.
The formula
Article 107 of the Saudi Labor Law says the employer pays for each overtime hour the hourly wage plus 50% of the basic wage.
- Hourly wage = (basic salary + allowances) ÷ 240
- Basic hourly wage = basic salary ÷ 240
- Overtime rate = hourly wage + (basic hourly wage × 50%)
- Overtime pay = overtime rate × overtime hours
The 240 comes from 30 days × 8 hours, the standard month used for Saudi wage calculations.
Worked examples
| Basic salary | Allowances | Hours | Overtime rate | Overtime pay | Basic only (× 1.5) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6,000 | 2,000 | 10 | 45.83 | 458.33 | 375.00 |
| 3,000 | 0 | 50 | 18.75 | 937.50 | 937.50 |
| 10,000 | 4,000 | 20 | 79.17 | 1,583.33 | 1,250.00 |
When there are no allowances, both methods give the same result.
Which hours count as overtime
- Hours beyond 8 a day or 48 a week. In Ramadan, the limit for Muslim workers is 6 hours a day or 36 a week.
- All hours worked on the weekly rest day and on public holidays.
Overtime is limited to 720 hours a year unless the employee agrees to more. Senior managers are excluded from these rules.
