Tips for documents
- Stick to one spelling. A single different letter between your passport and a plane ticket or degree certificate can hold up travel or paperwork.
- Copy your passport spelling if you have one, rather than relying on any tool.
- Letters with no English match, such as ع, ح and ق, are written in different ways: عمر is Omar, حسن is Hassan, and قاسم is Qasim or Kassem.
- “bin” and “bint” (son of, daughter of) are sometimes left out on official documents.
