How to use it
- Choose the birth date calendar: Hijri (the default) or Gregorian.
- Pick the day and month, and type the year.
- Your Hijri age today appears straight away. To find your age on another date, change Age on this date.
You’ll see your age in Hijri years, months and days, your Gregorian age, the gap between the two, your birth date in both calendars, the total Hijri months and days you’ve lived, and the Gregorian date of your next Hijri birthday.
Why your Hijri age is different
A Hijri year is 12 lunar months of 29 or 30 days, so it has 354 or 355 days. A Gregorian year has 365 or 366. That’s why your Hijri birthday moves about 11 days earlier each Gregorian year, and why your Hijri age slowly pulls ahead.
The calculator counts whole Hijri years first, then whole months, then the days left. If you were born on the 30th of a month that has only 29 days in a given year, your birthday that year falls on the 29th.
Examples on 18 October 2026
| Date of birth | Age in Hijri years | Age in Gregorian years |
|---|---|---|
| 12 Rabi al-Awwal 1390 AH (18 May 1970) | 58 y, 1 m, 25 d | 56 y, 5 m |
| 15 Rajab 1400 AH (30 May 1980) | 47 y, 9 m, 22 d | 46 y, 4 m, 18 d |
| 1 Ramadan 1410 AH (28 March 1990) | 37 y, 8 m, 6 d | 36 y, 6 m, 20 d |
| 1 Muharram 1420 AH (17 April 1999) | 28 y, 4 m, 6 d | 27 y, 6 m, 1 d |
| 10 Shawwal 1430 AH (29 September 2009) | 17 y, 6 m, 27 d | 17 y, 19 d |
Someone born in 1390 AH is about two years older in Hijri terms, while for someone born in 1430 AH the gap is only a few months.
Where Hijri ages are used
Many older Saudi documents, such as birth certificates and ID cards issued before government services moved to the Gregorian calendar, show Hijri dates, and Hijri ages still matter in religious and family life. For a detailed Gregorian age, use the age calculator. To convert any date, use the Hijri to Gregorian converter, and to do it by hand, read how to calculate your age in Hijri years.
