The five tiers

Each band of your monthly use is priced separately, for water and for sewage:

Monthly use Price per m³ (water + sewage)
Up to 15 m³ SAR 0.15
16–30 m³ SAR 1.50
31–45 m³ SAR 4.50
46–60 m³ SAR 6.00
Over 60 m³ SAR 9.00

Then a meter service charge (SAR 5 a month for most homes) and 15% VAT are added. Homes not connected to the sewage network pay the water part only.

Example: 35 m³

Part Amount (SAR)
First 15 m³ × 0.15 2.25
Next 15 m³ × 1.50 22.50
Last 5 m³ × 4.50 22.50
Meter charge 5.00
VAT 15% 7.84
Total 60.09

Keeping the bill down

  • Fix leaks quickly. A dripping tap or a running toilet can add several cubic meters a month.
  • Watch the 30 m³ line. Above it, every cubic meter costs three times as much.
  • Use full loads in washing machines and dishwashers.

Estimate your own bill with the water bill calculator, and your power bill with the electricity bill calculator.

Questions people ask

Why did my water bill jump?

Prices rise steeply in each tier: a cubic meter above 60 m³ costs 60 times the first tier. A leak or a busy month can push you into a higher tier.

Is VAT charged on water?

Yes, 15% VAT is added to the bill.

How can I check for a leak?

Turn off every tap, then watch the meter for 30 minutes. If it moves, there’s probably a leak.
