These are expected dates on the Umm al-Qura calendar. The Eid holidays move if the month starts a day earlier or later after the moon sighting.

Private sector: the rules

The Labor Law’s implementing regulations give private-sector workers paid holidays for:

  • Eid al-Fitr: 4 days, starting the day after 29 Ramadan.
  • Eid al-Adha: 4 days, starting on the Day of Arafah (9 Dhu al-Hijjah).
  • National Day: 1 day, on 23 September.
  • Founding Day: 1 day, on 22 February.

If a holiday day falls on the weekly rest day, the worker gets another day off before or after it. In 1448, the Eid al-Fitr holiday includes a Friday and the Eid al-Adha holiday includes a Saturday, so expect one extra day each time, as announced by the Ministry of Human Resources.

Government sector: the rules

For employees under the civil service system, the Human Resources rules set:

  • Eid al-Fitr: from 25 Ramadan to 5 Shawwal. In 1448, 25 Ramadan is a Thursday, so the holiday starts after work on Wednesday 3 March, and 5 Shawwal is a Saturday, so work resumes on Sunday 14 March 2027.
  • Eid al-Adha: from 5 to 15 Dhu al-Hijjah. In 1448 that’s Tuesday 11 May to Friday 21 May, so the holiday starts after work on Monday 10 May and work resumes on Sunday 23 May 2027.

Contract workers and some senior posts in government bodies can have shorter holidays, as set in each year’s announcement.

Schools

Schools follow their own calendar: the Eid al-Fitr break starts after school on Thursday 25 February and the Eid al-Adha break after school on Thursday 6 May 2027. See the school calendar 1448.

Plan around the holidays

Questions people ask

How long is the Eid al-Fitr holiday for the private sector?

Four days, starting the day after 29 Ramadan. For 1448 that’s expected to be Tuesday 9 to Friday 12 March 2027 if Ramadan has 29 days.

How long is the Eid holiday for government employees?

Under the civil service rules, Eid al-Fitr runs from 25 Ramadan to 5 Shawwal, and Eid al-Adha from 5 to 15 Dhu al-Hijjah. Weekends next to the holiday add to it.

What happens if a holiday falls on a weekend?

In the private sector, a holiday day that falls on the weekly rest day is made up with a day off before or after it. If it falls during annual leave, the annual leave is extended.

Are these dates final?

No. Eid dates depend on the moon sighting, and the Ministry of Human Resources announces the exact holiday each year. Use these dates for planning.
